The presence of a church in Newton Ferrers has been recorded since AD 1084 – making it one of the oldest foundations in the County of Devon.
A few fragments remain of a Norman church on this site but the present building dates from the 12th. – 14th. Centuries. The church was extensively remodelled in the 1880’s by the Yonge family of Puslinch.
Pews were installed in the 1960’s and a major rebuild and expansion of the organ took place in 1991.
The church is open every day and worth a visit. Its interior is calm, uncluttered and open.
There is ample space for worship, children’s groups and monthly charity lunches.
The Friends of Holy Cross was established as a registered charity in 1989 to maintain and enhance the fabric of the building.
The church lies at the heart of Newton Ferrers village and maintains strong links with the local Primary School and community.
